Who’s ready to expand their wellness horizons? Springmoor
Life Care Retirement Community has certainly expanded its wellness
offerings—and, as the community’s health and fitness director, I couldn’t be more excited!
At the Wellness Center grand opening on Tuesday at 2:30
p.m., I’ll be helping with exercise machine demos and guests will be able to
tour the new wellness rooms; get blood pressure, blood glucose and bone density
screenings; enjoy a mini-massage and mini manicure, and much more!
I’m most excited about the space and the opportunity the new
Pathways Wellness Center provides for classes and small group instruction—all
in one area. My office will even be located near the instruction rooms!
We will be increasing the number of aquatics classes offered--focusing
on balance and strength--and adding more group sessions in the exercise room.
We are even looking to finalize a one-on-one policy that would enable us to
work “one-on-one” with residents to assess their fitness and work with them on
a plan for improved wellness! The new area will even allow us to expand our
work with the rehab department, to help people transition to the wellness
center to maintain whatever strength they gained through rehabilitative
therapy.
Now—while I am excited about the fitness opportunities the
new center will provide, it’s important to note that this new area will help
residents improve wellness through all eight Pathways dimensions, including
spiritual and emotional. We’ll have screenings of films that touch on spiritual
and emotional topics, support meetings and a variety of gatherings at the
center.
I know Springmoor residents are excited for the Pathways
Wellness Center to open so they can jump on the equipment and sign up for the
various classes. The wellness team will still have some aquatics classes at the
North Village Pool, but will focus most of our instruction in the new center.
Our wellness focus for 2014 is fall prevention, so many of
the activities planned are aimed at improving balance and strength. I can’t
wait to help Springmoor residents get healthier and stronger!
