Curtis and Barbara Freeze |
Baby, it’s cold outside! When you’re a homeowner, colder
temperatures can make a mounting list of home maintenance chores that much more
difficult to tackle for aging adults: shoveling snow, sealing cracks, clearing dead
branches and disposing of piles of leaves—all can take a toll on your back,
hands and ticker. At Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community, residents don’t
have to lift a finger in winter! Crews clear the sidewalks (and cars) of
debris, leaves and snow and make all of the repairs! You won’t find Springmoor
residents bundled up outside, trying to navigate and clear slick walkways.
They’re all indoors, sipping hot cocoa, sitting by the fire, visiting with new
friends and enjoying winter from the comfort of their homes or common areas at
our beautiful Raleigh, North Carolina, community.
Springmoor Residents Curtis and Barbara Freeze moved to the
community in April from Kannapolis, North Carolina, and are enjoying the perks of
maintenance-free living immensely. They both are thankful for “the beautiful
grounds to enjoy everyday, and the benefit of not having to keep it up.” Both
of them grew up on dairy farms, so they know how hard it can be to get up in
the mornings in cold weather and work outside.
They don’t miss making their own home repairs, either. “If
something goes wrong, we can just call the maintenance department and they come
swiftly to fix it,” said Mrs. Freeze. Whether the heating or plumbing needs
fixed, or even if you just need help hanging a picture, Springmoor’s
maintenance workers are on call to help. And if you need help in an emergency, our
security department is always on call and ready to respond.
With all the spare time The Freezes now enjoy, the couple
decided to crunch numbers to figure out how much money they’ve saved by eliminating
utility costs, grocery bills, insurance and other basic homeowner expenses. “When
you add everything up, it’s really worth living here,” said Mrs. Freeze, “I’m
not cooking every meal and our grocery bill has really decreased.”
The amenities that Springmoor are also unlike what is
available to most homeowners. Our brand new Pathways Wellness Center offers state-of-the-art
exercise equipment, a salt-water lap pool, movie theater, hair salon and more. The
Freezes really enjoy the accessibility of the center, and their opportunity to exercise
on campus. “We try to get out once a day,” said Mr. Freeze. They usually enjoy walking around the
grounds, but on days when it’s too cold, they just go to the Wellness Center to
get their daily activity.
Overall, the Freezes feel like they made a wonderful choice
in giving up the stress of homeownership and moving to a retirement community
like Springmoor. Mrs. Freeze said it took “awhile to adjust” but everyone here
had helped them settle. “Our neighbors are like our family,” she said.
